As U.S. stocks hit new highs, hedge fund assets reach new records
Golden Finance reported that on May 2, Wall Street once again displayed a picture of prosperity: the stock market repeatedly hit new highs, and investors’ risk appetite also rebounded—and alternative investment strategies also achieved success. This month, the S&P 500 Index and the Nasdaq 100 Index both closed at record highs, driven by the earnings performance of major technology companies and strong forecasts for Apple’s performance. Although people remain optimistic about traditional asset markets, in the more alternative investment strategy space, a different picture has emerged. According to data from Hedge Fund Research, in the first quarter of this year, hedge funds attracted $45 billion in new capital, the highest level of quarterly inflows since 2007, bringing the industry’s total assets to an all-time high of $5.2 trillion. Meanwhile, according to data from Société Générale, trend-following quantitative funds rose by about 10% year-to-date in May, outperforming the U.S. stock market.
