Golden Finance reports that on May 2nd, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a joint statement with Spain, strongly condemning Israel’s actions of detaining two nationals at sea, and stating that this act constitutes “kidnapping.” The statement said that the two individuals were aboard ships related to the “Global Resilience Fleet” when they were intercepted by Israeli military forces near Greek waters. Brazil and Spain demanded that Israel immediately release the individuals and ensure their safe return, and that they be allowed to receive consular assistance immediately. It is reported that the detainees are Brazilian activist Thiago Avila and Spanish-Palestinian activist Saif Abu Keshik. Israel stated that the two would be taken to Israel for questioning, claiming that Abu Keshik is suspected of links to terrorist organizations and Avila of engaging in illegal activities, but no evidence has been provided. It is reported that a total of 22 ships and 175 activists were intercepted by the Israeli navy. Previously, on April 30th, Brazil, Turkey, Bangladesh, Colombia, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mauritania, Pakistan, South Africa, and Spain issued a joint statement condemning Israel’s actions against the “Global Resilience Fleet.” (CCTV News)
