The announcement explicitly mentioned that Iran might demand such payments in the form of digital assets, fiat currency, and other means. The U.S. Department of the Treasury stated that it will take direct sanctions actions against entities supporting the Iranian military and urged maritime service providers to strengthen targeted due diligence.
