just realized a lot of people in crypto don't actually know what 1k, 1 million, or 1 billion mean. like, people throw these numbers around all the time but it's kinda funny how many just assume everyone gets it lol
so here's the deal - 1k is just shorthand for 1,000. the k comes from "kilo" which literally means thousand. so when you see something like 10k, that's 10,000. 100k is 100,000. pretty straightforward right?
then you've got 1 million which is 1,000,000 - basically a thousand thousands stacked together. 5 million would be 5,000,000 and so on. most people get this one.
and then there's 1 billion which is 1,000,000,000 - that's a thousand millions. honestly the jump from million to billion is where most people's brains start to glitch because the numbers get so big it's hard to visualize.
quick breakdown for reference:
1k = 1,000
1 million = 1,000,000
1 billion = 1,000,000,000
if you're doing anything online - youtube, trading, freelancing, or especially crypto - you're gonna see these terms constantly. understanding what they actually mean instead of just nodding along makes a huge difference when you're looking at charts, market caps, or trading volumes. way easier to make informed decisions when you know what the numbers actually represent.
anyway if you're into crypto, you might wanna check out some of the assets on gate like WCT, PNUT, or MASK if you're curious about different projects
