North Korean Hackers Have Stolen Over $6 Billion in Cryptocurrency Since 2017

On May 1, according to the latest report from TRM Labs, North Korean hackers stole nearly $600 million in cryptocurrency during the attacks on Drift Protocol and Kelp DAO in April, accounting for 76% of the total losses in that month. TRM Labs estimates that since 2017, hackers linked to North Korea have stolen over $6 billion from cryptocurrency protocols and projects. The report indicates that the share of losses caused by North Korean hackers in the global cryptocurrency hacking incidents has increased from less than 10% in 2020 and 2021 to 22% in 2022, 37% in 2023, 39% in 2024, and 64% in 2025.
