I noticed an interesting story that shows how the crypto community supports its own. Ross Ulbricht, who was released after Trump's pardon, held an auction of his personal belongings and earned over $1.3 million in Bitcoin from it.

What exactly was sold? Prison IDs, clothing, paintings he created during incarceration, notebooks with notes. The most expensive item was his prison ID from 2024-2025, which sold for 5.5 BTC. A full set of three IDs was sold for 7.5 BTC, which was about $780,000 at the time. His three prison paintings brought in 2.41 BTC, and a tracksuit and sneakers added another 1.05 BTC together.

Ulbricht explained in his statement that he simply wants to leave it behind. He left Arizona, where he was imprisoned, and is ready for a new life. He no longer needs prison memorabilia, but he understood that they hold significance for the community.

The most interesting thing happened afterward. A few days after the auction, Ross Ulbricht received a donation of 300 BTC — approximately $31.4 million at the current exchange rate. This is one of the largest single donations in crypto for the entire year. Blockchain analysts from Lookonchain immediately noticed this and spread the word.

All of this coincided with his first public appearance at Bitcoin 2025. On stage, Ulbricht thanked the community for their support during his imprisonment and spoke about the values he believes should drive cryptocurrency forward — freedom, decentralization, unity. His words about the fight for freedom not being over resonated with the audience.

Ross Ulbricht’s presence at the conference is a kind of symbol. His past remains controversial, but now he positions himself as a voice for personal freedom and decentralization. The crypto community is clearly willing to listen to him. It will be interesting to see how his involvement in the space develops further.
