I just read a fact that left me thinking: do we really know how much money is in the world? Because the numbers are pretty mind-blowing when you start breaking them down.
According to estimates, it’s around 37 trillion dollars in total, considering everything: from the bills you carry in your wallet to bank account deposits. But here’s the interesting part: when we talk about the global amount of money, we need to differentiate between the tangible and the abstract.
If we only count physical coins and bills, we’re talking about around 6.6 trillion dollars. Sounds like a lot, right? But that’s just 18% of the total money in the world. The rest is in digital systems, deposits, liquid assets.
Now, what intrigues me most is how cryptography fits into all of this. Investments, derivatives, and cryptocurrencies together exceed 1.2 trillion dollars. It’s still a small portion compared to the amount of money that exists globally, but it’s a number that’s constantly growing.
I start thinking about how much money is in the world and then ask myself: what is really our share? Because if you look at it that way, most of us have a ridiculously small amount. That’s why Bitcoin and digital assets are starting to make more sense, don’t you think?
