Afghans who previously worked for the U.S. military or were deported to the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Afghan refugee rights organization “Afghan Evacuation Alliance” based in the United States confirmed on the 21st that the Trump administration intends to deport approximately 1,100 Afghans who previously worked for the U.S. military and their family members to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa. Media outlets such as The New York Times and The Guardian in the United Kingdom have reported this news. These 1,100 Afghans include former U.S. military translators, former Afghan special forces soldiers, and relatives of active U.S. military personnel, among whom about 700 are women and children. The U.S. government has placed them in a refugee camp at the U.S. military’s Saleya Army Base in Qatar, citing security reasons. Reports indicate that the Trump administration has ordered the closure of this refugee camp within a specified deadline. (Xinhua)
