Iranian Insider: Iran Remains Deeply Distrustful of the U.S.

On May 1, it remains unclear whether Iran’s latest proposal is sufficient to bring both sides back to the negotiating table. An Iranian insider stated that if the U.S. lifts its blockade on Iranian ports and Iran fully reopens the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran might consider resuming negotiations. The U.S. has made it clear that Iran should unconditionally allow any vessels to pass through the strait; it is currently unknown whether Iran’s latest proposal has made this concession. The insider indicated that Iran still harbors deep distrust towards the U.S. and does not understand why the U.S. abandoned dialogue during the last round of negotiations in Pakistan. (CNN)
