Just looked at the latest cost of living data and Switzerland is absolutely dominating the rankings of the most expensive cities in the world right now. Zurich tops the list at 112.5, meaning it's about 12.5% pricier than NYC, followed by Geneva at 111.4 and Basel at 110.7. Honestly, the entire top six is basically just Swiss cities - Lausanne, Lugano, and Bern round it out. The index uses New York as the baseline at 100 points, so anything above that is more expensive and anything below is cheaper.

What's interesting is how the most expensive cities in the world aren't just concentrated in one region. The US has a solid presence with NYC obviously at the benchmark, but then you've got Honolulu at 94.4, San Francisco at 90.7, and Seattle at 86. Even LA and San Diego crack the top 25 at 76.3 each. Norway's also showing up multiple times with Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen, and Stavanger all making the list. Singapore and Tel Aviv pop up too, though they score lower than the American tech hubs.

The way this works is they factor in housing, food, transport, utilities, and entertainment costs. So if a city scores 112 like Zurich, you're basically paying 12% more for everything compared to New York. The most expensive cities in the world tend to be finance or tech centers - makes sense why Zurich, Geneva, and the Bay Area are so pricey. Switzerland just has this consistent wealth thing going on that keeps all their major cities expensive across the board.
