Iranian sources: Iran still deeply distrusts the United States

Golden Finance reports that, as of May 1st, it is still unclear whether Iran’s latest proposal is sufficient to bring both sides back to the negotiating table. An Iranian source said that if the United States lifts the blockade on Iranian ports and Iran fully reopens the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran might consider restarting negotiations. The U.S. has made it clear that Iran should unconditionally allow any ships to pass through the strait; it is not yet clear whether Iran’s latest proposal has made this concession. The source stated that Iran still harbors deep distrust of the United States and does not understand why the U.S. abandoned dialogue during the last round of talks in Pakistan. (CNN)
