Just checked the latest data on where it costs the most to live globally, and Switzerland absolutely dominates. Zurich, Geneva, and Basel basically lock down the top spots among the world's most expensive cities to live in. Zurich's sitting at 112.5 on the index (where NYC = 100), which means it's about 12.5% pricier than New York. Pretty wild when you think about it. Geneva's right behind at 111.4, and Basel comes in third at 110.7. Honestly, all six of the top expensive cities in the world are in Switzerland - Lausanne, Lugano, and Bern round out the list. The Swiss really aren't messing around with their cost of living.
What's interesting is how the US shows up pretty heavily too. New York anchors the whole index at 100, then you've got Honolulu (94.4), San Francisco (90.7), and Seattle (86) all making the cut. Seems like the tech boom really pushed West Coast prices up. Even LA and San Diego squeezed into the top 25 most expensive cities globally.
Outside of Switzerland and the US, Norway's got multiple cities on the list - Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen, Stavanger all rank high. In Asia, Singapore (85.3) and Tel Aviv lead the pack. The overall pattern's pretty clear: wealthy nations with strong financial centers tend to have the most expensive cities in the world. Europe's definitely leading the charge overall.
