DOJ-led crackdown busts overseas crypto scam centers, 276 arrested
The US Justice Department said an FBI-led operation with law enforcement in Dubai, China, and Thailand dismantled at least nine overseas crypto scam centers and led to at least 276 arrests. The DOJ said the schemes targeted Americans by building fake romance or friendship online and steering victims to bogus crypto investment platforms. The DOJ said the FBI’s Operation Level Up has warned nearly 9,000 potential victims and helped prevent an estimated $562 million in losses.
