OpenAI Chairman: AI coding increases from 20% to 80%, evolving rapidly
OpenAI Chairman Greg Brockman stated that AI programming tools are advancing rapidly, with code generation capabilities increasing from about 20% to nearly 80% of the coding workload.
This statement indicates that AI is shifting from a supporting role to becoming a core productivity driver in software development, although code approval still requires human review.
According to Brockman’s remarks at a recent Sequoia Capital event, AI programming tools are no longer just assisting developers but are moving closer to a central position in the software development process.
He also mentioned that OpenAI’s internal code generation tools, such as Codex, have expanded their scope from software engineers to a broader audience, including anyone using computers for work.
However, OpenAI still requires all generated code to undergo review and approval by humans. This approach shows the company remains cautious about potential risks that could arise from fully automating the coding process.
