I recently came across a pretty interesting piece of political circle gossip—about Steven Cheung. Honestly, within the Chinese American community, he’s definitely a well-known figure. He’s the only Chinese senior staff member on Trump’s team, and he’s also a die-hard supporter.
You know his style, right? One word: ruthless. Telling off reporters, dissing celebrities, throwing out profanity—his “wolf warrior”-style remarks are basically just everyday operations for him. His loyalty to his boss is absolutely unwavering. No matter what others say, he can’t be changed. I’ve read a lot of his statements—some of them really do go a bit too far—but this guy is just the type who eats that up, and he’s always been like that.
The issue is that this kind of style seems to have genuinely gotten on people’s nerves lately. There’s a rumor that Steven Cheung has now lost Trump’s trust and has been kicked out of the inner circle. It’s not because of any single major incident, but the result of this long-term, fiery approach that’s been accumulating over time.
The most critical turning point happened on January 13. Trump went to the Ford plant in Michigan to inspect things, and a worker directly scolded him to his face, calling him a “child-molester protector.” The worker also said the government has been slow to release Jeffrey Epstein’s files. Trump replied on the spot with a middle finger and profanity—everything was extremely awkward in the moment. You can probably imagine what that looked like.
Steven Cheung immediately jumped out with a statement defending his boss, saying something like, “A lunatic completely lost control and went on a wild profanity-fueled rant—the president gave him the most appropriate and clearest response.” As a result, this line directly set off both the media and netizens. Big outlets like Reuters and Yahoo reported it, and the focus was entirely on the fact that he called the protester a “lunatic.” Netizens slammed him, saying “wolf-warrior loyalty is so low-level” and “how can the White House talk like that,” and public opinion quickly turned overwhelmingly against him.
There are also rumors that he opposes certain policies from some law enforcement agencies, but these are basically factional infighting rumors within MAGA. There’s no confirmation from mainstream media. On X, this kind of rumor is everywhere—there’s a lot of filler and misinformation. In addition, some people say he flaunts his wealth—luxury cars, mansions, and the like—which could also be another target for attacks.
The current situation is pretty awkward: Steven Cheung used to be Trump’s most loyal gunman, but now it seems his own side is starting to look down on him. That’s politics—when you overprotect your boss, it can easily backfire.
