Recently, I often need to register overseas accounts using virtual numbers. I've run into many pitfalls before—sometimes messages don't arrive, or they are delayed by half a day. It wasn't until later that I realized how important choosing the right SMS verification platform is, especially since it's really not easy for domestic users to find a stable solution in China.

I've tried several, and in the end, only a few Chinese SMS platform providers are truly reliable. SMS-Activate and 5SIM offer the best overall experience, with verification codes arriving within about 10 seconds, covering many countries, making them suitable for cross-border testing. If mainly using domestic number segments, Super Cloud SMS and XiaoNiao SMS respond faster—10-30 seconds for US numbers, and domestic numbers generally arrive within 5-20 seconds.

From my experience using Chinese SMS platforms recently, I’ve learned a few things: first, don’t just pick the cheapest option randomly—reputable platforms are more stable; second, if you use them frequently, it’s better to load multiple numbers as backups so you can switch immediately if one becomes invalid; also, some platforms support a one-click number switch feature, which is really practical and saves a lot of trouble.

However, be aware that shared number segments are more likely to have been registered before, and obscure apps may also experience delays. So my current approach is: for light use, just pick any SMS platform in China that supports API; for important accounts that require stability, choose paid dedicated numbers. Overall, as long as you pick the right platform, virtual number verification is quite convenient—it protects privacy and avoids buying new SIM cards.
