Surveillance Video of Trump Shooting Incident Released, Shooter Conducted Reconnaissance Day Before

On May 1, Jeanine Pirro, a federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C., released edited surveillance footage of the Trump shooting incident on the X platform. The video shows the shooter, Cole Allen, attempting to assassinate the president by shooting a Secret Service officer during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and he explicitly denies that it was a case of friendly fire. The footage also reveals Allen scouting the scene in the fitness area and hallways of the Washington Hilton Hotel the day before. Following the shooting, there has been public controversy regarding the response of the U.S. Secret Service, including issues such as police dogs detecting anomalies multiple times without being taken seriously, and the slow response of several personnel on site. U.S. Secret Service Director Sean Cullen previously stated that Allen was not subdued by gunfire from the Secret Service but was instead tripped by a box containing a metal detector while he was running past a checkpoint outside the venue. Cullen confirmed that none of the five shots fired by Secret Service agents hit Allen.
