Just realized a lot of people don't know how the Social Security payment schedule actually works. Turns out when you get your check depends on your birthday, not random timing like most of us assume. If you were born between the 1st and 10th, payments hit on the second Wednesday. Born 11th to 20th? Third Wednesday. And 21st to 31st gets the fourth Wednesday. For November specifically, that meant payments were coming Nov 12, 19, or 26 depending on when you were born. Pretty interesting system once you understand it. The SSA also has different rules for people on Supplemental Security Income - those got paid early in October since November 1st fell on a weekend. And if you've been getting benefits since before 1997, you're on a different schedule too. The average monthly payments vary a lot since they're based on your lifetime earnings. Retired workers were averaging around 2,008 dollars, spouses about 955, and survivors around 1,575. Not exactly living large for most people, but it adds up. If you're trying to plan around your Social Security payment schedule, knowing your birthday determines everything makes budgeting easier. Worth checking the official SSA website if you want the exact dates for your situation.
