just realized something about applying for social security - timing actually matters a lot more than i thought. so apparently mondays are absolute chaos at the SSA, like call volumes can spike 30% higher than midweek. if you're thinking of reaching out to your local office (even places like the social security office corinth ms) on a monday morning, good luck with that wait time lol.
turns out tuesday through thursday mornings are way better. that's when the offices aren't completely overwhelmed and you actually have a shot at talking to someone without being on hold forever. some people are saying the average hold time can be like 2+ hours, which is wild.
if you really need to call, aim for 8-10am any weekday - supposedly that's when you get the shortest waits, maybe 20 minutes to an hour. but honestly? just apply online through their website if you can. way less headache than dealing with phone lines or going in person.
and yeah, have all your documents ready before you even start - birth certificate, social security number, income history, the whole thing. makes the process actually move instead of getting stuck somewhere. anyone else have a nightmare social security experience?
