Trump Claims He "Destroyed" Iran's Nuclear Capabilities

On May 1, US President Donald Trump stated at a White House press conference that recent US military actions had "destroyed" Iran's nuclear capabilities and significantly weakened its overall military capabilities. He claimed that Iran's naval and air forces were "almost nonexistent," approximately 82% of its drone production facilities had been disabled, and nearly 90% of its missile production facilities were damaged, with most missile systems destroyed. Trump claimed the US had accomplished key strike objectives in a short period of time and emphasized that without action, Iran "could obtain a nuclear weapon," which "cannot be allowed to happen." Trump stated that negotiations with Iran were currently stalled, but the Iranian side "is very eager to reach an agreement." He stated that only a very small number of senior US officials knew the details of the negotiations. Trump stated that under the economic blockade and military pressure, the Iranian economy is facing serious difficulties, and oil revenues have declined significantly. He emphasized that the US goal is to force Iran to abandon its nuclear weapons program while simultaneously promoting a swift negotiated settlement.
