Fed Holds Rates at 3.5%-3.75% for Third Straight Meeting as Divisions Widen

The Federal Reserve kept the federal funds target range at 3.5%-3.75% unchanged for a third straight meeting. The Committee said economic activity is expanding at a solid pace, while job gains have been somewhat weak and the unemployment rate has changed little in recent months. The Committee said inflation remains elevated, partly because of recent increases in global energy prices. The Committee also said developments in the Middle East are amplifying uncertainty around the outlook.
