I've been looking into online banking options lately and figured I'd share what I found. The whole space has changed so much — these banks offer way better rates than traditional ones, plus they're open 24/7 which is huge for someone like me who doesn't like dealing with branch hours.

Ally Bank seems like the safest bet if you want an all-around solid option. They hit 2.50% APY on savings with no minimum balance, and their automated savings tools actually work pretty well for moving money around. The mobile checking account features are solid too — you can set up multiple accounts for different goals.

If you want something more aggressive on yields, Vio's money market account is hitting 3.52% APY, which is pretty wild. You only need $100 to start. Same with Bread Financial's savings account at 3.00% APY. CIT Bank has this interesting tiered approach where different accounts pay between 1% and 3.25% depending on what you want.

For the mobile checking account angle specifically, SoFi's combo account is worth checking out. You get 2.50% on checking and 3% on savings if you set up direct deposit, plus access to like 55,000 ATMs. No opening balance required either. Quontic's doing some weird stuff with Bitcoin rewards if that interests you — up to 1.5% back in Bitcoin on purchases.

Discover's supposedly best for customer service according to JD Power rankings, and Marcus by Goldman Sachs is the play if you hate fees — literally zero charges on their savings account. American Express has a rewards checking option too if you're into earning points.

Honestly the main tradeoff with most of these is that they don't have ATMs or debit cards attached to the savings accounts, so you're usually transferring money to spend it. But for just parking cash and watching it grow, it's hard to beat these rates compared to what your traditional bank is probably offering.
