The wealth of Larry Page, the co-founder of Google, has risen to $300.9 billion, up $14.9 billion in a single day, driven by a strong surge in the company’s shares.



Page thus ranks second among the world’s richest people, behind Elon Musk, according to Forbes estimates.

Sergy Brin, Google’s co-founder, also saw a similar jump, as his wealth increased by about $13.7 billion to reach $277 billion, making him the third-richest person in the world, ahead of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, whose wealth fell by $3.5 billion to $267 billion.

This performance came after the stock of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, rose 6.5% at the start of Thursday trading, following the announcement of strong financial results, as the company reported earnings of $5.11 per share and revenue of $109.8 billion in the first quarter, exceeding analysts’ expectations of $2.68 per share and $106.9 billion, according to FactSet data.

Revenue growth was driven by a year-on-year increase of 63% in Google Cloud sales, reaching $20 billion and surpassing estimates of $18 billion.

The valuation of Alphabet reached $4.5 trillion. After the sharp jump its shares saw on Thursday, making the parent company of Google the second-largest company in the world after Nvidia ($4.9 trillion)...
