just realized most people are doing this completely wrong and it's making everything worse. so i was looking into social security stuff lately and apparently monday mornings are literally the worst time to call. like, the SSA gets absolutely slammed after the weekend - call volumes spike up to 30% higher than midweek. people don't realize this and then get frustrated waiting forever.
turns out if you actually need to reach someone, tuesday through thursday mornings are your best bet. way less traffic, faster processing, way less chaotic. and if you're doing it by phone, aim for 8-10am - that's when hold times are shortest, usually between 20 minutes to an hour. honestly that's not terrible compared to what some people told me they waited.
the real move though? just apply online through the official SSA website. seriously. skip the phone lines entirely. the wait times are brutal - average is like 2+ hours if you call during peak times. having your documents ready beforehand (birth cert, social security number, income history) also speeds things up massively. double check everything before submitting too, because apparently delays are super common when people rush through it.
if you're near a local social security office, early morning visits midweek also work. the staff are less overwhelmed and actually have time to help instead of just rushing you through. even applies if you're in places like litchfield or anywhere else - the pattern is the same. honestly this timing thing makes such a difference, can't believe more people don't know about it.
