So been reading about these tariff situations and honestly got me thinking about what to actually stock up on if things get weird with food availability. Like, it's probably fine but why not be prepared, right?
Starting with the basics - rice is stupid cheap and lasts forever if you do it right. White rice especially can sit for years, even decades if you're really paranoid about it. Beans are similar, affordable protein that keeps you full and stores for ages. Then there's canned stuff - soups, veggies, fruit, whatever. Most canned goods last over a year easy if you just keep them in a cool cabinet. Don't freeze them though, that messes with them.
Meat's probably the big one everyone thinks about. Frozen red meat is solid for a year or more, ground meat not as long but still decent. Nuts are underrated for storage - they last half a year minimum, longer if frozen. Even coffee and chocolate have decent shelf lives if you're into that.
Basically if you're wondering what things to stock up on, focus on stuff that's affordable, nutritious, and actually stores well. Rice, beans, canned goods, frozen meat - these are the things to stock up on that won't go bad. Not saying the world's ending but having these things around just makes sense anyway, tariffs or not. What are you guys thinking about keeping on hand?
