been looking into reliable cars made in japan lately and honestly the options are pretty solid. everyone talks about how japanese manufacturers dominate reliability rankings - like toyota corolla hybrid just took the top spot on consumer reports with a 93 rating, which is insane. the gas version isn't far behind either.
what's wild is that cars made in japan hold up so well even though a lot of them are actually manufactured in the u.s. now. something like 2.8 million units came from american factories in 2022 but they're still just as dependable. honda civic's been on basically every "most reliable" list i've seen, and people keep mentioning the low maintenance costs. the accord's similar story.
toyota's basically the reliability king though. corolla's the obvious choice if you want something budget-friendly around 21k, but the camry's also legit if you need more space. prius is another solid option if efficiency matters - starts under 25k and just keeps running. even mazda's mx-5 miata made the reliable cars list with an 85 score, which surprised me for a sports car.
if you want something bigger, lexus gx got a 91 reliability rating. it's more expensive but the quality's there for long-term ownership. honestly for cars made in japan, you really can't go wrong with toyota or honda if you're looking at longevity. the reputation they built decades ago still holds up.
