Just looked back at what happened with fall travel deals last year and honestly, retirees really cleaned up. The cruise prices were insane if you knew when to book. I'm talking repositioning cruises in September and October where you could snag interior cabins for like $50 a night. Celebrity and MSC were running senior discounts too - Celebrity had stuff for anyone 55+, MSC was giving 10% off for 65+. Makes me think about planning something similar for next fall honestly.
The airline deals were equally wild. Southwest had one-way tickets dropping to the $39-69 range, and international flights were down 30% in some cases. Midweek flying was the move if you had flexibility. AARP members got stacked deals on top of that with British Airways discounts and hotel packages.
What surprised me most was how overlooked train travel was. Amtrak's 10% senior discount plus their flash sales meant some routes were going for like $18-130 each way. The scenic routes through the Pacific Northwest were packed in fall but cheaper than peak season. And national parks basically empty out after Labor Day - Yosemite, Yellowstone, all of them suddenly had availability and lower prices.
The whole thing made me realize fall is just the perfect window if you're retired and flexible. Crowds are gone, prices drop, and there's this whole secondary market of deals nobody talks about. Worth planning ahead for next year if you're thinking about it.
