Been looking into the whole downsizing thing lately and honestly the cost difference between tiny houses for sale and RVs is wild. Like, if you're actually serious about it, you need to know what you're getting into financially.



So here's what I found: RVs are cheaper to jump into if you go the travel trailer route - you're looking at maybe 10k to start, though a motorhome can run you way more. Tiny houses for sale usually start around 30-70k, sometimes way higher for the fancy ones. But here's the catch - if you buy a tiny house, you also need land, which adds another layer of cost depending on where you are. RV people skip that whole thing since they just park at campgrounds.

Once you're actually living in one, the monthly stuff adds up differently. RV folks are paying like 800-1700 a month for travel trailers, maybe 1500-3000 for the bigger motorhomes. That's including campground fees and utilities. With tiny houses for sale that you actually own on your own land, you're looking at property taxes and utilities instead, which can be less depending on the situation. If you're renting a lot for your tiny house, that's another 250-1500 monthly.

Utilities are another thing - RVs run about 100-300 a month though a lot of campgrounds bundle that in. Tiny houses connect to regular utilities like normal homes, but a bunch of people offset costs with solar panels and water systems. The maintenance is pretty similar for both, maybe 250-500 a year for RVs, similar story for tiny houses just on a smaller scale.

Really comes down to what you actually want - do you want to move around constantly or are you ready to settle down, just in something smaller? Both have trade-offs.
