Trump Rejects Iran Proposal, US Prepares Lightning Airstrikes Against Iran
Donald Trump has reportedly officially rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and instead instructed the Pentagon to immediately prepare a short-term airstrike plan. A report from Axios on Wednesday (April 29) states that this military operation targeting various critical infrastructures aims to force Iran back to the negotiation table to agree on a new nuclear deal. Trump reaffirmed that he will maintain the maritime blockade as the main bargaining chip because he considers Iran's oil storage facilities on the verge of collapse due to inability to export.
On the other hand, this military escalation carries heavy fiscal consequences for the United States, with conflict costs now swelling to $25 billion or approximately Rp392.5 trillion according to the latest Pentagon data. The massive budget is absorbed for large-scale troop mobilization, ammunition procurement, and replacement of combat equipment during the blockade period.
In response to this latest escalation, US crude oil prices immediately surged sharply past the $107 per barrel level.
