Satya Nadella did not announce profits. He announced in the afternoon.
On Tuesday evening, Satya Nadella stood before investors and said one sentence that summarizes everything:
"Our artificial intelligence has surpassed $37 billion in annual revenue, a 123% increase in just one year."
This number alone is enough to close the discussion.
The numbers are not the surprise
Microsoft announced revenues of $82.9 billion in the last quarter, an 18% growth from last year.
Profits increased by 23%.
The Azure platform, the company's real engine, grew 40% annually.
But these numbers have become expected. Microsoft has been beating expectations for four consecutive quarters. The market is used to that.
The real surprise is elsewhere.
The terrifying spending
In one quarter, Microsoft spent $30.9 billion on infrastructure, data centers, processors, fiber optic cables connecting what Nadella calls
"giant AI factories."
This number increased by 84% compared to the same period last year.
The company is not buying growth.
But it is building the terrain.
"eval-max" — a word you've never heard before
Nadella said that Microsoft aims to help every company
"eval-max their outcomes in the Agentic computing era"
to achieve maximum results in the era of working computing.
"Agentic Computing" is the stage where AI is no longer just an assistant answering questions, but an agent accomplishing tasks, making decisions, and managing entire operations independently.
Nadella is not talking about Copilot that writes emails.
He is talking about a system that replaces entire layers of office work.
So what does all this mean?
The market responded with a 9% immediate increase after the close.
But the deeper answer is this:
Major companies betting on AI are still in the spending phase, which is normal in any industrial revolution.
But Microsoft has begun to prove that spending translates into real revenue and growing profits.
This is what distinguishes it from companies that spend and wait.
The difference between building the railway and buying a train ticket,
is no longer theoretical...
