just realized how wild the sales tax differences are depending on where you live. like some states with the highest sales tax are hitting you with over 7% (california, indiana, tennessee) while delaware, alaska, montana literally have zero. that's insane when you think about it. apparently gillham arkansas is the absolute worst at 12.625% total when you add local taxes on top. meanwhile if you live near a border you could just drive to a no-tax state for big purchases lol. the article mentioned that sales tax hits lower income people way harder since they spend more of their paycheck just buying stuff they need. so basically if you're poor you're getting taxed more proportionally which seems backwards. makes sense why people cross state lines for major purchases. anyone else shocked by how much this varies? states with the highest sales tax really do drain your wallet compared to neighbors just a few miles away
