Just realized how many airport lines you can actually skip if you know the tricks. Spent way too much time at the terminal last month and started researching this stuff.
First thing - why are people still standing in check-in lines? Like seriously, check in on your phone 24 hours before. If you've got bags, just print the tags at a kiosk and drop them off. Or honestly, just ask at the gate if they'll gate-check your luggage. I've done this so many times and it works more often than you'd think.
Security is where it gets real though. There's this thing called Clear that lets you scan your fingerprint instead of showing your ID to an agent, then they basically escort you past everyone else. Costs like $189 a year but some credit cards cover it as a benefit, so check yours first. TSA PreCheck is another option - $78 for five years and you don't have to take off your shoes or remove your laptop. The regular line can hit 30 minutes easy, but PreCheck is usually under 10.
Food ordering changed my life. A lot of airports now have apps or websites where you can order from restaurants ahead of time and just pick it up. Starbucks does this at a bunch of airports. You order on your phone, show up, grab your coffee, done. Saves like 20 minutes of standing around.
If you're coming back from international travel, Global Entry is the move. It's $100 and lets you skip the customs line completely. Yeah it's not free but honestly worth it if you travel internationally even once a year. Plus it includes TSA PreCheck benefits so you're getting both perks.
The whole thing is basically - use your phone for everything you can, pay for expedited programs if you travel regularly (or find a credit card that covers them), and ask gate agents about options they don't advertise. I used to think airport lines were just something you had to deal with, but there's actually a lot of ways around them if you know what to look for. Definitely saves your sanity when you're trying to make a flight.
