U.S. AI Child Safety Bill Gains Support from Senate Committee, Tech Giants to be Affected

According to monitoring by Beating, Bloomberg reports that a powerful committee in the U.S. Senate has backed legislation requiring OpenAI, Meta Platforms (META.O), and other artificial intelligence companies to prevent minors from using AI chatbots. This move responds to growing public concerns about the potential harm this rapidly spreading technology poses to children and adolescents. In the ideologically divided U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, Republicans and Democrats have broken party lines to unanimously support the bill. The legislation will require AI companies to maintain strict age verification systems, prohibit the provision of AI companionship services to minors, and ban chatbots from pushing harmful information to minors.
