Just saw that Hitachi landed this massive EUR 481.6 million contract with Turin for a fully automated metro line. Pretty impressive scale - we're talking about 28 km of track with 31 stations, all driverless. The trains can hold 404 passengers each, which is honestly a lot of capacity.

What caught my attention is the tech side. They're using GoA4 signalling, which is basically the highest automation level available right now. No drivers needed at all - everything from starting to stopping to doors is completely automated. Turin's getting these trains by 2033, and they're being manufactured in Italy, so there's local production involved too.

Hitachi's also putting their HMAX system on these trains - their digital asset management platform that monitors vehicle and line data in real time. They already have this running on over 2,000 trains globally. The whole thing feels like a solid move toward more efficient, low-emission public transit. Wonder how other cities are watching this Turin project unfold.
