Been looking into diversifying beyond U.S. markets lately and honestly, just throwing money into passive international funds feels risky when you don't know what you're buying. Like, companies in other countries operate under totally different rules and reporting standards, right? That's where active management actually makes sense. I stumbled on some foreign stock ETF options that have real portfolio managers making actual decisions instead of just tracking an index. Avantis has this emerging markets value fund (AVES) that caught my eye - pulled in 17.9% over the past year. Not bad considering the expense ratio is only 36 basis points. They also offer another foreign stock ETF for international large-cap value plays (AVIV) that returned 17.3% annually at just 25 bps. What's interesting is that active foreign stock ETF managers can actually hunt for mispriced opportunities in markets where information flow is messier than the U.S. The whole 'soft landing' narrative around the economy has me thinking maybe it's time to hedge against the mega-cap tech concentration we've all been riding. If that cycle rotates, international exposure through a solid active foreign stock ETF could be a decent cushion. Anyway, worth exploring if you're tired of being 100% domestic. Anyone else looking at international options right now?
