CoinWorld News, UN Secretary-General António Guterres held a press conference at the New York headquarters regarding the Middle East crisis, pointing out that the crisis is painfully entering its third month. Despite a fragile ceasefire, the situation is worsening as time passes. He expressed deep concern over restrictions on freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Guterres stated that if the strait remains closed until mid-year, the global economic growth rate will drop to 2.5%, inflation will rise to 5.4%, 32 million more people will fall into poverty, and 45 million more people will face extreme hunger. If the strait remains closed until the end of the year, the global economic growth rate will fall to 2%, and inflation will exceed 6%. He urged all parties to avoid actions that could undermine the ceasefire and said that the UN system is working to mitigate the impact of the current crisis.
