Just checked the hog futures at midday and they're barely moving - contracts are hovering right around unchanged, staying within 40 cents either way. The USDA had the national base hog price at $91.84 earlier this week, and the CME Lean Hog Index was up a quarter on the 27th, sitting at $89.69. Pork carcass cutout dropped though, down 91 cents to $97.59 per cwt, with ham, butt, and belly all trading lower.
Slaughter numbers came in at 482,000 head on Monday - that's about 5,000 more than last week but still below where we were a year ago. Looking at the contract board, Apr closed up a dime at $95.675, May dropped 32.5 cents to $99.700, and Jun was down a bit at $109.400. Pretty steady action midday, nothing too dramatic pushing the market around right now.
