Just came across this ranking of the worst places to drive in the US and it's pretty eye-opening. Apparently fatal car accidents have been climbing, and some cities are way more dangerous than others. They analyzed the 50 biggest cities looking at drunk driving, distracted driving, speeding, and overall crash fatalities.

Albuquerque, New Mexico tops the list as the absolute worst - scored 100 out of 100 on their danger scale. It's got the highest rate of distracted driving crashes and ranks third for total fatal accidents. Then Memphis, Tennessee is right behind it with even more total crashes but slightly fewer distracted driving incidents. Detroit, Tucson, and Kansas City round out the top 5 worst places to drive in the US.

What's interesting is that speeding is a huge factor in Kansas City - they've got the highest rate of speed-related fatal crashes of any city studied. Dallas and Fort Worth are also on the list, so if you're driving in Texas you might want to be extra careful. Louisville, Phoenix, and Tampa complete the top 10 worst places to drive in the us.

The data they used was from 2017 to 2021 averages pulled from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, so it's a few years old but still relevant. Makes you think about where you're driving and how aggressive some cities really are on the roads. Definitely changes how I think about road safety depending on location.
