Lantu Motors Chairman Lu Fang: Going through L3 is necessary
On April 22, Lu Fang, Chairman of Liantou Motors, said at a media communications meeting: “I personally firmly believe that to move toward higher-level intelligent driving capabilities, going through the L3 stage is necessary. I believe that the evolution of things requires a transitional phase—so that we can be responsible for the operation of future society and responsible for future traffic safety. Experiencing the L3 level is necessary.” Earlier, on April 11, at the Smart Electric Vehicle Development Summit (2026), Jin Yuzhi, CEO of Huawei’s Smart Automotive Solutions BU, stated that the L3 level is a necessary step on the way to fully autonomous driving and cannot be skipped. Meanwhile, He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPeng Motors, has repeatedly stated in public that he supports skipping L3 in autonomous driving. As a result, the auto industry has sparked heated debate over whether the L3 level should be skipped. (First Financial)
