So Ampol's EG Australia deal just moved to Phase 2 with the ACCC - stock popped 2.91% on the news. The interesting part is they've narrowed down the competition concerns from 115 sites initially to just 54 flagged locations across 51 local areas. That's actually some progress in the review process. Still got another 20 areas they're looking at with no preliminary call yet. The ACCC's also checking whether the combined company would dominate in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra - post-deal market share would be 21%, 19%, 20%, and 31% in those cities respectively. The whole thing hinges on a 5 June 2026 deadline for ACCC's final decision. Ampol seems confident they can work through the concerns. The A$1.1 billion deal for EG's 500 sites is still on track, but definitely not a done deal yet. Curious how this plays out - merger reviews can go either way.
