Just came across an interesting breakdown of the cheapest countries to live in the world right now, and honestly some of the numbers surprised me. The US average is sitting around $2,433/month, which is pretty steep if you're trying to make your money stretch further.

Turns out there are actually 50 countries where you can live for less than that. Some obvious picks like Portugal and Spain are in there at around $1,286 and $1,383 monthly, which makes sense. But I didn't expect to see places like Costa Rica ($1,156), Panama ($1,198), and even some Caribbean islands pulling in cheaper numbers.

For anyone seriously considering the cheapest country to live in the world angle, the data shows Eastern Europe and parts of Southeast Asia are solid bets too. Czech Republic, Estonia, and Laos are all under $1,200. Meanwhile, if you want something more developed, New Zealand and Australia are surprisingly affordable compared to the US at around $1,950-$2,293.

The wild part? Some of the most expensive options in this list of cheapest countries to live are still below the US baseline. Like even Luxembourg at $2,200 is technically cheaper. Makes you wonder if more Americans would consider it if they knew how far their money goes abroad.

Obviously these are 2025 figures so costs have probably shifted a bit, but gives you a solid starting point if you're actually thinking about relocating somewhere more affordable.
