Just realized I've been going to the bank branch for cash deposits this whole time when I could've used ATMs. Turns out not all ATMs do this though—depends on your bank. Been looking into how much cash you can actually deposit at ATMs and it's kind of all over the place. Some banks don't have limits on the dollar amount, but they'll cap the number of bills you can deposit in one go. Wells Fargo for example only lets you do 30 bills per transaction, and Capital One has a $5,000 one-time limit. Wild that they're not consistent about it. The process is pretty straightforward if your ATM supports deposits—just insert your card, pick deposit, feed the cash in (most don't need envelopes anymore), and confirm. Money usually shows up same day or next business day if it's in-network. Out-of-network deposits can take longer though, sometimes up to four business days depending on the bank. If you're using online banks it gets trickier since they don't have physical branches. Some like Radius Bank let you deposit at their ATMs for free, but others make it complicated. Capital One 360 for instance only accepts cash at their actual locations, not through their ATM partner. So before you start wondering how much cash you can deposit at an ATM, definitely check your bank's website first to see which machines actually accept deposits and if there are any fees or limits. Saved me a few trips already just knowing this stuff upfront.
