The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research released a new poll on the 21st showing that, influenced by factors such as military actions against Iran and unfavorable responses in the economy, U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to 33%, down 5 percentage points from March. Most respondents believe the U.S. is heading in the wrong direction. American public dissatisfaction with high living costs is especially prominent, and they are disappointed with Trump’s empty promises, feeling “duped.” The poll was conducted from April 16 to 20, with 2,596 American adults surveyed. According to the results, the decline in support for Trump is mainly reflected in the economy. Due to military actions against Iran pushing up living costs, especially the surge in fuel prices, support for Trump’s economic policies has sharply fallen from 38% in March to 30%; about 73% of respondents believe the U.S. economy is “very” or “somewhat” bad; 72% think the U.S. is heading in the wrong direction. The poll also shows that support among Republicans for Trump’s economic performance has decreased, with the proportion of Republicans holding a positive view of his economic policies dropping by 12 percentage points since March. Another poll released on the 21st by Reuters and Ipsos shows that Trump’s support remains at 36%, still the lowest level since his return to the White House. (Xinhua)
