Brazil has a short memory:

The Senate delivers a historic defeat and sends a message to power

Brazil does not have a short memory. Jorge Messias's rejection by the Senate, by 42 votes to 34, goes down in history as a clear message to the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The appointment, seen by many as based on political affinity, did not pass the scrutiny of the plenary. In a scenario of increased institutional scrutiny and an electoral climate, positions and decisions associated with the appointee continue to weigh in political judgment.

The episode strengthens more conservative sectors in Congress and shows that the game of forces in Brasília is more balanced — and tougher.

👉 The lesson remains: for such high positions, personal trust is not enough — broad support and favorable public memory are required.
