So I just found out you can actually give dogs oranges and they're not bad for them at all. Like, I was peeling one earlier and my dog was giving me those eyes, so I looked it up. Turns out they're full of vitamin C, fiber, and all that good stuff—basically the same nutrients that are good for us.

The thing is, you gotta be smart about it. My vet would probably say the same thing: only give them a few slices max, like one to three pieces a day. And definitely peel it first because apparently the peel has toxins that can mess with their digestion or even cause blockages. Seeds too—gotta remove those. Fresh orange is best, never the canned stuff since that's loaded with sugar.

I was curious if blood oranges work the same way since I have those too, and yeah, they should be fine as long as you follow the same rules. Same with mandarin oranges and clementines—basically any citrus variant is okay in moderation. Just keep it as an occasional treat, not a regular thing, since most dog food already has all the nutrients they need anyway.

One thing that stuck with me: if your dog has diabetes, skip the oranges entirely. The sugar content can mess with their insulin levels. And puppies need to be careful too—their digestive systems are more sensitive, so introduce it slowly if at all.

Honestly, oranges are a decent alternative to regular dog treats, especially on hot days since they're like 90% water. But if you notice your dog getting an upset stomach, vomiting, or diarrhea after eating some, that's a sign to stop and maybe call the vet. Better safe than sorry with this stuff.

Anyone else feed their dogs fruit? Curious what else actually works.
