So I was wondering if oranges are actually bad for dogs since I always see people saying you gotta be careful with what you feed your pup. Turns out they're totally fine in moderation—like, my vet confirmed this too. They've got all the good stuff: vitamin C, fiber, calcium, potassium, magnesium. Pretty much a mini vitamin bomb if you think about it.

But here's the thing—just because they're nutritious doesn't mean you should be throwing them at your dog constantly. The rule is basically one to three slices max, and it should only be like 10% of what they eat daily. More than that and your dog might get an upset stomach, which nobody wants to deal with. Also, you absolutely have to peel them first and get rid of the seeds because there's actually toxic stuff in there.

I learned the hard way that puppies need to be introduced to oranges slowly since their digestive system is more sensitive. And if your dog has diabetes, apparently you should skip it entirely because of the sugar content. Fresh orange is better than canned too—canned ones are loaded with extra sugar and syrup, which defeats the whole purpose.

The hydration angle is kind of cool though. Oranges are like 90% water, so on a hot day they're a decent refreshing treat if your dog needs to cool down or you're trying to help them lose weight. I've also noticed the fiber helps with digestion stuff. Just remember to check with your vet before adding anything new to their diet, especially if they've got any existing health issues. It's one of those things where a little bit is genuinely good, but too much is actually not great.
