Just realized airlines are constantly dropping new airline routes with insane introductory fares and I've been sleeping on this. Like Delta was selling round trips to Marrakech for $534 when they launched that route, which is crazy compared to the $950 average people were paying before. The trick is you gotta catch these deals early when airlines are trying to drum up hype for new airline routes. Saw someone mention that when multiple carriers start competing on the same new airline routes, prices just tank. Seattle to Taipei is a perfect example - when Delta jumped in, suddenly there were like 4x more seats available and prices dropped to $740 while other airlines were asking $1,300+. Sometimes if you miss the initial promo fares, you can still win though. Airlines overestimate demand all the time, so if a route doesn't fill up, they'll eventually lower prices just to get bodies on planes. United's betting on people wanting to escape the typical tourist spots with flights to places like Ulaanbaatar and Greenland - curious if those will tank in price later in the season. Best move is signing up for airline emails so you catch new airline routes announcements first, using Google Flights to explore random destinations, and setting price alerts.
