Just been scrolling through some 2025 IPO data and honestly, the stock market debut landscape that summer was wild. After Q1 and Q2 were basically dead zones for new listings, suddenly Q3 exploded with demand. Companies that had been sitting private for nearly a decade finally decided to go public, and investors couldn't get enough of it.
The whole vibe shifted because of three things: first, people actually wanted to buy new issues again after years of sitting on the sidelines. Second, AI and crypto sectors were absolutely dominating, so anything touching those spaces got instant attention on its stock market debut. And third, everyone was betting the Fed would cut rates and make capital cheaper. That combination was basically rocket fuel.
Two stocks that caught my eye from that wave were pretty fascinating for different reasons. Figma's stock market debut was absolutely insane - opened at $33, hit $115 by end of day, that's over 200% gains. The company had like 13 million active users and was pulling in $228 million in revenue with 46% YoY growth. Yeah, the valuation was spicy at 40x sales, but the product actually made sense - real-time design collaboration platform with huge enterprise clients like Netflix and Stripe.
Then there was MNTN, which had this interesting angle with Connected TV advertising. Performance TV platform helping brands target specific audiences on Roku, Fire Stick, that kind of thing. First earnings call missed on EPS but beat revenue expectations, $68 million with 25% growth. Analysts were pretty bullish - 8 buy ratings against 2 holds, consensus target around $30.
What's interesting looking back is how the stock market debut cycle really does move in waves. You get these periods where capital just dries up, companies stay private longer, and then suddenly the gates open. The shift from 84 IPOs in H1 2025 to that hot summer wave shows how fast sentiment can flip when conditions align. If you were watching the markets back then, those early movers in AI and crypto sectors during their stock market debut window definitely rewarded patient investors who got in early.
