So I was looking into CLEAR for airport lines since I fly pretty regularly, and yeah, the pricing is wild. How much is CLEAR per year? $189 for the Plus membership, which honestly hit different when I first saw it. That's like $16 a month just to skip a security line.
But here's the thing—not everyone pays full price. If you're with Delta or United, you can get it way cheaper through their frequent flyer programs. Delta SkyMiles members pay $119, and if you hit Medallion status, it drops to $109. United does something similar. American Express cards are another angle—their Platinum card literally covers the full $189 with a statement credit, so basically free if you have the right card.
Compared to TSA PreCheck at like $100 for five years, CLEAR is definitely the premium option. You're paying for skipping the entire line vs just getting a faster screening process. The real question is whether how much is CLEAR per year actually makes sense for your travel habits. If you're flying multiple times a month, it breaks down to like $5 per round trip, which isn't terrible. But if you only fly a few times a year? You're looking at $50+ per trip. That's tough to justify.
Kids under 18 travel free with a parent's membership, which is nice. You can also add family or friends for $60 each, which is less painful than the full price. The enrollment is instant too—just a fingerprint or iris scan at the airport, no background check needed.
Available at around 45 airports now and growing. So before dropping $189, I'd check if your home airport even has it. If you're constantly traveling and have an Amex Platinum anyway, sure, might as well use that credit. Otherwise, how much is CLEAR per year really makes you think twice.
