Just fell down a rabbit hole about the most expensive handbag in the world and honestly, the numbers are wild. Like, we're talking millions of dollars for something to carry your keys in.

I started with Elizabeth Taylor's evening bag from that 2011 Christie's auction - a woven gold clutch with diamond lettering that went for $218,500. Already that's insane, but it gets so much crazier from there.

Then there's the Chanel pieces. The Diamond Forever bag designed by Karl Lagerfeld has 334 actual diamonds in the clasp alone - 334! It sold for $261,000 at an amfAR benefit. And if you want something more minimal, there's this 1989 black lambskin Chanel clutch listed for $300,000. It's tiny, barely holds anything, but apparently that's part of the appeal.

But Hermès is where things really get unhinged. The Faubourg Birkin with palladium hardware sold for nearly $400,000. Then you've got the Ginza Tanaka collaboration - and this is where I had to read it twice - a Birkin with 2,182 diamonds literally encrusted into it. Price tag: $1.9 million. I genuinely can't wrap my head around that being the most expensive handbag in the world.

Oh, and Li Bingbing's custom Lana Marks Cleopatra clutch with her name in pink gold and pink diamonds also hit $400,000. Apparently Helen Mirren and Angelina Jolie have carried similar versions, but hers was the premium custom edition.

The wildest part? These aren't even one-of-a-kind art pieces - they're handbags. Like, yes, they're beautiful and rare, but you could also just... use them? The people buying these are clearly operating in a completely different financial universe than the rest of us. Makes you wonder what it's like to casually spend a million+ on an accessory.
